Texas Youth Commission (TYC)
Texas Youth Commission
The roots of the juvenile justice system in Texas go back to the middle of the last century. In the 1850′s the Texas legislature passed laws to exempt children under age 13 from criminal prosecution, setting apart a separate facility to house children. Building the facility was delayed by the civil war, but Gatesville State School for Boys finally opened in 1889. A training school for girls, Gainesville State School, was established in 1916.
Over the years the Texas Commission has continued to evolve toward it’s current mission of ensuring the public safety by holding youth accountable and providing a variety of treatment programs to youth in hopes they will learn to become law-abiding adults.
Noteworthy Ministries begin serving at the Texas Youth Commission, Gainesville State School with our Bible & Guitar Study programs in mid 1997. We contine to serve at the Gainesville State school as this is our longest running program.
Over the past ten years the management and staff of the Texas Youth Commission have worked hand and hand with Noteworthy Ministries, providing us with the opportunity to minister to youth at a number of their facilities. We are grateful for all of their efforts in going the extra mile for us. They do an outstanding job and it’s is a privilege to serve along-side them.
A special thanks go out to the outstanding volunteers who serve at Noteworthy Ministries, teaching the Amazing Grace Bible & Guitar Study at the various TYC facilities. Their love for the youth and willingness to give of their time allows us to serve at TYC.
