Bible Study

The value of studying the story of John Newton
We first study the story of John Newton and how he came to write Amazing Grace.
How could God love a person like John Newton?

Bible Study Goals
Our goal is for the kids to understand their position in Christ and to have a working understanding of grace in their lives. We also share with them how to locate specific Bible passages and to study scripture. Lastly, we teach participants the Roman Road system of sharing their faith with others.

About the Bible study
We first study the story of John Newton and how he came to write Amazing Grace. Then we take a general look at the song to glean its overall meaning. Then we take each line or phrase for individual study. Each verse of Amazing Grace is studied individually to see how it fits as part of the whole. Special emphasis is giving to the first  verse.

Continually we attempt to engage participants thinking by asking:
1.What does it say
2.What does it mean
3.How does this apply to my life?

A worksheet handout is completed during each lesson using fill-in the blank and short answer questions. At the end of the course each participant has a complete notebook that may be used for future reference. Our kids also practice “hands-on” sharing of their faith with others.

Additional Opportunities for Ministry
During the Bible study portion of the program, we discuss current problems our students are experiencing and solutions based on Biblical truths. We focus on the personal relationship all believers have with Jesus, and how His unconditional love transcends any mistakes and sins we have committed. Can Jesus love a person who made his living by trading the lives of others?

A pivotal verse in our teaching is Ephesians 3:12(NIV) which tells us that: “In Him and through faith in Him we may approach God with freedom and confidence”. It is important that these young men know and understand that in Christ Jesus, they have freedom and security to approach Him in any situation.
